CostumePop

FAQ

Commonly asked questions.

  • What is CostumePop?
Borrow and Lend Halloween Costumes. UCSB and SBCC students lend costumes and accessories to each other for a night or weekend. Borrow it. Wear it. Return it.
  • Who can use it?
You need a school email: @ucsb.edu or @sbcc.edu. Sign up, confirm email, set a password, verify your phone, then finish your profile before you post or borrow.
  • How does borrowing work?
Request a listing with pickup and return times. The lender accepts, you place a card hold, then you chat to arrange handoff. Both sides confirm pickup (that is when borrow cost + $1 fee is charged). You wear it, both confirm return with a return photo, then the lender taps all good or reports an issue. Or the hold releases automatically after 24 hours of silence once it is marked returned.
  • What’s a hold vs a charge?
Borrowing places a card hold (collateral), not a charge. Your bank may show it as pending. When the costume comes back and everything checks out, we release the hold. Your bank can take a few days to free the funds. The borrow cost plus a flat $1 transaction fee are charged when both of you confirm pickup — not when the hold is placed.
  • When is the borrow cost charged?
After the hold is on the card, both of you confirm pickup. Then we charge the listing's borrow cost plus the $1 transaction fee on the same card. If pickup is never confirmed and nobody cancels, the hold stays — it is not released automatically. Cancel the request (or ask an admin) before pickup to release the hold.
  • When does status say picked up?
Only after both of you confirm pickup (and the owner has saved a before photo). Placing the hold alone keeps status at hold placed. Chat on the request page to arrange the meet-up.
  • What if something is damaged?
Before handoff, the lender takes a photo of the costume. When the borrower returns it, they take a return photo. Those photos document condition so any damage can be verified. If there is a problem after return, the lender can report an issue. The hold stays in place until a decision is made. Any amount taken from the hold is capped at the hold amount, never more.
  • How do returns work?
Return by the time you agreed. Upload a return photo and mark it returned. The lender taps “all good” to release the hold, or reports an issue. If the lender does not respond within 24 hours, the hold is released automatically. Don't ghost your returns.
  • Where is CostumePop live?
Live in Isla Vista now. Campus beta for UCSB and SBCC. Pickup spots lean IV and nearby; more of Santa Barbara as we grow.
